Our staff enjoy all the typical benefits you would expect from a top ten UK university, but unlike a typical university department, we think and operate much more like a medium-sized business.
We have over 700 staff and associates who support our work, from over 30 countries. We encourage everyone to be creative, and to contribute towards pushing the department ever forwards. There is good interaction between research, education, technical and administrative staff, and expertise is shared around the department.
We have been a member of the Athena SWAN Charter since 2014. Our most recent award was a Bronze Award in 2016, and we are working on an ambitious Action Plan to make further progress in the area of gender equality.
We recognise the importance of a healthy work/life balance and offer flexible working, and career breaks.
We also have exceptional provisions for those with families. We have a generous maternity, paternity and adoption leave, as well as access to on-campus Children’s Services, including a nursery and a holiday scheme.
