We have leading research themes in Digital Technologies, Digital Transformation, Intelligent Vehicles, Materials and Manufacturing, and Energy which include 34 research capability areas. These serve sectors such as automotive, aerospace, commercial and off-road, marine, rail, special vehicles, law enforcement, the built environment, foundation industries, manufacturing, oil and gas, alternative energy, healthcare and medical devices, water industry and utilities.
We are one of the founding members of the High Value Manufacturing Catapult (HVMC), and the lead centre for Vehicle Electrification, and Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV) within the HVMC network. The centre is also active in showing how Digital Manufacturing technologies can help improve company and supply chain competitiveness. As part of the £640m Government funding package for HVM Catapult, we were allocated £100m in 2018 to continue strengthening UK industry through collaborative R&D, innovation and technology transfer from automotive into other transport sectors over the next five years.
We were part of the consortium who led the bid for the UK Battery Industrialisation Centre (UKBIC), with Coventry City Council and the Coventry and Warwickshire LEP. We are working with the UK BIC team to deliver the new facility.
We have strong relationships with global companies – including Airbus, Alstom, Astra-Zeneca, Bosch, BAE Systems, GE, Jaguar Land Rover, Nissan, TAFE, Tata, Turkish Airlines, TVS, and Vodafone – as well as supporting SMEs through a range of innovation programmes, and to date we have worked with over 1,800.
